Join a forward-thinking charity as a Volunteer Shop Assistant, where your contributions directly impact pets in need. This role offers a chance to meet new people, gain valuable retail experience, and support your local community. You'll help sort and prepare donated items for sale, ensuring that only the best quality goods reach the shop floor. With flexible shifts and comprehensive training provided, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop your skills, make new friends, and be part of a dedicated team. Your enthusiasm and commitment will play a crucial role in the success of our charity shops, making a difference for countless animals in need.
Our shops help raise lots of money for us. It’s always lovely chatting to our customers about the fabulous items we sell and telling them about the fantastic work that we do. You’ll get the chance to meet new people and make friends plus you’ll be part of an amazing team of volunteers.
There’s so much for you to get stuck in to when you’re volunteering in our shops. In the stock room role you’ll be helping with tasks such as sorting donated items, checking item quality, steaming clothes and replenishing stock on the shop floor.
It would be ideal if you could volunteer one shift a week, which is about four hours but we're also happy to have more flexible times. No special skills are needed as we’ll show you what to do and we provide all the training you’ll need. But if you have any experience or particular interest, tell us, it may come in useful.

Our shops play a key role in our work and all profits go to helping more pets in need. By volunteering, your contribution has an impact far into the future. Our Volunteer Shop Assistants help with the day-to-day running of our shops. They sort our donations to ensure only top quality goods make it to the shop floor and prepare them so they are ready for sale. Last year, our shops raised millions – we couldn’t do this without our volunteers and we need your help!
The shift hours are flexible and there is no minimum time commitment to be a volunteer. To volunteer in our shops, there is a minimum age of 14. We accept students who are volunteering for their Duke of Edinburgh awards - please apply for our DofE Shop Assistant Role. Blue Cross holds inclusion as a core organisational value. We positively encourage applications from eligible volunteers regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, transgender status, religion or belief, marital status or pregnancy and maternity.
