Job summary

A leading food manufacturer based in Hertfordshire is seeking multi-skilled shift engineers to carry out maintenance on high-speed production and packaging machinery. Hertfordshire (SG1). Commute from Stevenage, Hitchin, Luton, Biggleswade, St. Neots, Welwyn, Ware, Royston. Salary: £52,000. 12‑hour shifts: 2 days / 2 nights / 4 off.

Our client is a leading food manufacturer that values hard work, teamwork and developing people. They are part of a global group with multiple sites in the UK and are looking for a number of multi‑skilled shift engineers to join their team as part of a succession plan.

Role & Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive, predictive and breakdown maintenance of all high‑speed production & packaging machinery
• Work on control panels, HMIs, PLCs, SCADA systems
• Electrical & mechanical fault finding, problem solving and repairs
• Continuous improvement projects
• Deal with motors, VSDs, servo drives, pneumatics, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, inverters
• Mechanical fabrication, fitting, welding
• Upkeep and alteration of electrical & mechanical drawings

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Multi‑skilled engineer – ideally electrically biased
• NVQ Level 3 engineering or maintenance minimum
• Ideally HNC/HND qualified
• Must have worked in some form of fast‑paced / FMCG manufacturing industry
• Strong electrical & mechanical problem solving skills
• Knowledge of PLCs, automation & control systems, HMIs
• Continuous improvement mentality
• Willingness to help in all areas of the team
• Worked on motors, inverters, VSDs, sensors, switches, pneumatics, gearboxes
• Ideally have worked with high‑speed production & packaging machinery
