Service Designer - Central Government

6-Month Contract | Inside IR35 | Active SC Clearance Required | Fully Remote

We're seeking an experienced Service Designer to support a major digital transformation programme within central government. This is a 6-month contract, inside IR35, fully remote, and requires active SC clearance at the point of onboarding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end service design for complex, high-impact public-sector services.
  • Develop current-state and future-state service maps, identifying pain points and opportunities across people, processes, and technology.
  • Work closely with product, research, policy, operations and technical teams to create coherent, user-centred service experiences.
  • Shape service concepts, prototypes and solutions that support large-scale digital transformation goals.
  • Facilitate workshops and co-design sessions with stakeholders across government.
  • Communicate insights and design decisions clearly to senior leaders and delivery teams.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Demonstrable experience as a Service Designer within UK central government.
  • Strong background working on large, complex digital transformation programmes.
  • Active SC clearance (must be currently held and transferable).
  • Skilled in service mapping, journey mapping, blueprinting, prototyping and facilitation.
  • Experience designing in multidisciplinary, agile delivery environments.
  • Ability to navigate complex stakeholder landscapes and balance user needs with operational and organisational constraints.
Contract Details
  • Length: 6 months (with strong potential to extend)
  • Day Rate: Competitive (Inside IR35)
  • Location: Fully remote (occasional travel may be requested)
  • Security Clearance: Active SC required
