Senior Staff Nurse Paediatrics

We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, innovative Senior Staff Nurses to join our Child and Adolescent Nursing Team.

The Child and Adolescent Unit comprises a 27 bed inpatient area including 4 HDU beds, a 7 bed day case surgery area and a 12 bed assessment area.

This is an exciting time for CAU. We need Band 6s who are ready to lead a team, stand out, and strive for excellence within clinical practice and continuous improvement.

We are seeking individuals with excellent leadership and clinical skills. The successful candidate will actively participate in leadership, education, development and supervision of the team, with awareness of trust policies and procedures and a broader understanding of current national issues.

We are looking for enthusiasm, energy and a passion for nursing children and young people.

Main duties of the job

SERVICE DELIVERY

To lead on a shift as shift co-ordinator, managing a team to deliver care to patients in a safe and effective manner. This involves working in areas including inpatients, assessment and day case surgery, and leading handovers and escalation of issues to the Ward Manager.

GOVERNANCE

1. Promote the individual needs of the patient by acknowledging preferences, rights and choices, respecting privacy and dignity, and promoting anti-discriminatory practice; alert senior staff if patient appears to be disrespectful or discriminatory.

2. Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.

3. Ensure effective communication and compliance with data awareness policy and legislation.

4. Contribute to the content of policies, procedures and guidelines related to the clinical area.

5. Ensure compliance with Trust policies and guidelines for self and others; take action or alert senior management if practice contravenes policy or if there are concerns about patient care.

MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP

1. Participate in the development of services from the patient perspective, making suggestions for change and leading improvements under the direction of the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.

2. Initiate patient and public involvement activities in the ward area leading to service improvement.

3. Demonstrate effective clinical leadership by prioritising patient care, allocating, supervising and evaluating the work of the team under the direction of the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.

4. Accept delegated line management responsibilities, including recruitment, induction, work-based learning and education for staff.

5. Participate in the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources, ensuring the right numbers and skill mix of staff, equipment and supplies, and reporting concerns.

6. Ensure a healthy, safe and secure working environment, maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and accurate documentation; report concerns as needed.
