Job summary

Immunocore is seeking a Senior Scientist I - Characterisation to join the CMC team in Oxford. You will support drug substance and product impurity characterization, and lead methods development in peptide mapping and mass spectrometry for biotherapeutics.

The role requires hands-on experience with HPLC peptide mapping, glycosylation analysis, and protein characterisation in microbial and mammalian systems. You will contribute to study protocols, collaborate across disciplines, and mentor

Qualifications

• Essential: HPLC-based peptide mapping & MS characterisation of recombinant proteins/antibodies.
• Essential: Glycosylation analysis of recombinant proteins/antibodies.
• Independently coordinated extensive testing of protein biomolecules.
• Experienced in characterisation of proteins from microbial and mammalian systems.
• Understanding of expected post-translational modifications.
• Bench-based biopharmaceutical lab experience.
• Expert in electrophoretic/chromatographic/mass spectrometry techniques.
• Experience in assay development.
• Knowledge of biopharmaceutical stability study principles.

Responsibilities

• Support characterisation of drug substances and products, including impurity profiling.
• Perform protein sequence and post-translational modification identification, including glycosylation analysis.
• Contribute to development of characterisation methods for ImmTAX and other products (peptide mapping and intact mass).
• Design and carry out biochemical characterisation, chemical stability and comparability studies of biologics.
• Contribute to writing study protocols and reports; present findings to teams and partners.
• Independently testing and leading lines of investigation; mentor colleagues and share new techniques.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure equipment use is optimal.
• Communicate findings at meetings with senior management and collaborators.
