Job summary

Immunocore is seeking a Senior Scientist I in Characterisation to join the CMC team at Oxford. You will develop and apply peptide mapping (LC-MS/MS) and mass spectrometry methods to characterise recombinant proteins and antibodies, including glycosylation analysis.

You will lead technical investigations, design stability studies, and help advance characterization of ImmTAX molecules while ensuring robust lab records and compliance with EHS policies. Collaboration across teams is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in HPLC-based peptide mapping and MS characterisation of recombinant proteins or antibodies.
• Glycosylation analysis of recombinant proteins or antibodies.
• Independently coordinated extensive testing of protein biomolecules.
• Characterisation of proteins expressed in microbial and mammalian systems.
• Understanding of expected post-translational modifications.
• Bench-based biopharmaceutical laboratory experience.
• Expertise in electrophoretic, chromatographic or MS methods.
• Experience in assay development.
• Familiar with biopharmaceutical stability study principles.
• Presented scientific findings to internal/external audiences.
• Proposed changes to improve efficiency and working practices.
• Experience working in diverse teams and driving collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Characterise drug substance and product impurities and identification.
• Perform protein sequence and PTM identification, incl. glycosylation analysis.
• Characterise process intermediates to support development.
• Develop characterisation methods for ImmTAX and LC-MS/MS peptide mapping.
• Design biochemical characterisation, chemical stability and comparability studies.
• Write study protocols and reports.
• Independently test and lead lines of investigation; propose new experiments.
• Prioritise own and team work; make decisions based on data and goals.
• Share knowledge across departments and mentor colleagues.
• Maintain up-to-date laboratory records and ensure proper documentation.
• Provide technical guidance on equipment use and data interpretation.
• Communicate findings to senior management and partners.
• Adhere to EHS policies and GMP/compliance expectations.
