Overview

Progress Teachers are supporting a local mainstream secondary school to appoint a Senior Science Technician to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, as well as managing a team of technicians, to support the delivery of engaging and safe science lessons across all year groups.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the work of the Science Technician team.
  • Prepare, deliver, and set up resources / equipment for practical science lessons.
  • Ensure labs, prep rooms, and equipment are clean, well-maintained, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Manage inventory and ordering of materials / chemicals etc.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment, stock levels, and COSHH/CLEAPSS documentation.
  • Support staff and students during practical lessons, offering technical advice as appropriate.
  • Lead on the safe disposal of hazardous waste and the management of risk assessments.
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of new technicians.
  • Consistently promote and safeguard the welfare of all pupils.
Qualifications / Requirements
  • A degree in or related to Biology, Chemistry, and/or Physics is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working as a science technician, preferably in a school or educational setting.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety procedures in laboratories (including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines).
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a small team.
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative, proactive approach.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain
