Job description

Following on from a commitment to investment in the pharmacy team at Kingston Hospital, we have an excellent opportunity to join our friendly and well-respected team as a Senior Pharmacy Assistant (Band 3).

You will be responsible for delivering an effective pharmacy stock management service to all ophthalmology patients in the trust, alongside the specialist ophthalmology pharmacist.

You must have Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification.

Key Responsibilities
  • To work with the pharmacy and ‘Royal Eye Unit’ ophthalmology teams to support the supply of medicines to patients.
  • To be involved in delivering an effective pharmacy stock management service to all ophthalmology patients in the trust.
  • Duties will include stock management in pharmacy stores and in REU clinics/departments, booking out and maintaining records of high-cost drugs, management of supplies of TTA packs, patient counselling and training and supporting junior/new staff.

Additional Responsibilities
  • To distribute medicines to wards and departments.
  • To carry out a regular top‑up service, including issuing, picking and putting away.
  • Liaise with the procurement officer when items are out of stock and make sure they are on order.
  • Communicate any items unavailable to the REU pharmacist and nurse in charge.
  • Fulfil to‑follow items as and when they become available.
  • Monthly expiry date checks to be carried out in all areas of REU where medication is stored.
  • To assess ward and department medicines requirements as part of the “top‑up” service.
