Senior Nurse Practitioner – Mental Health Assessment Unit

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Mental Health Assessment Unit (MHAU) for a Senior Nurse Practitioner.

The MHAU provides a single point of access to an integrated, community asset‑based approach to care. Our aim is to support patients in effectively self‑managing their lives and health, reducing distress and improving overall functioning. We work closely with partner agencies to ensure an efficient and compassionate journey through mental health services.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including mental state and risk assessments (suicide, self‑harm, violence) within a holistic framework.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Make sound clinical decisions in complex and challenging situations.
  • Undertake nurse‑led assessments and joint assessments with medical colleagues, including Police Section 297 assessments.
  • Provide a 24/7 triage service to Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, and NHS 24.
Qualifications
  • High level of knowledge and experience in assessing major mental illness and psychological distress.
  • Excellent clinical judgment and decision‑making skills.
  • Confidence working independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and commitment to working a 24‑hour shift pattern.

You must have full current registration with the UK NMC as a Mental Health Nurse.
