Job description

The Senior Lawyer (PO6) will provide high-quality, specialist legal advice and representation to support the Royal Borough of Greenwich in delivering its statutory and strategic objectives. The postholder will manage a caseload of complex legal matters, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, best practice, and the Council's policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice and support to departments across the Council, with a focus on areas such as contracts, governance, property, planning, employment, or litigation (depending on specialism).
  • Prepare, draft, and review complex legal documents, reports, and agreements.
  • Represent the Council in legal proceedings, tribunals, and negotiations as required.
  • Manage a caseload efficiently, ensuring timely and accurate completion of work.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive (CILEx) eligible to practise in England and Wales.
  • Demonstrated post-qualification experience in one or more relevant areas of local government law.
  • Proven ability to manage complex legal matters with minimal supervision.
  • Experience advising senior officers and elected members in a local authority or similar public sector environment.
