Overview

Are you highly motivated, dynamic and looking to make a real difference to patient care and experience within surgical specialties? Do you have the care, compassion and skills to be part of a team making our patients’ stay and experience as comfortable as possible? Then this could be the role for you. We are seeking dynamic individuals who are passionate about patient care to join our Acute Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward. On Holly Ward, we provide pre and post operative care for patients requiring orthopaedic surgery. Patients are often frail/elderly and require assistance with all aspects of personal care and rehabilitation.

As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will be expected to work a combination of shifts including nights, weekends and Bank Holidays.

  • Early – 07:15-15:15
  • Late – 12:15 - 20:15
  • Long Day – 07:15 - 20:15
  • Night – 20:00 - 07:30

Please be aware that you must be able to attend a full time induction programme for the first 4 weeks in your new role. Interviews for this position will be held in person ONLY. Remote interviews will not be available. The job description outlines the primary role and responsibilities of a Senior Health Care Support Worker and is not exhaustive and may be amended from time to time as the needs of the service change. Some service areas may have additional skill requirements which are subject to competency based assessments. There is an expectation for post holders to be flexible in order to provide cover to other clinical areas where there is an increase in service demand.

Responsibilities and conduct
  • Demonstrate a courteous, sympathetic, compassionate and helpful approach to patients, relatives and visitors at all times.
  • Act as an ambassador promoting the corporate image of York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, to all individuals, groups and external organisations, to sustain public confidence and trust.
  • Act as a positive role model for all Trust employees.
  • Demonstrate a positive professional working relationship with colleagues and other members of the Trust by promoting open communication, trust and respect.
  • Establish and actively maintain clear professional boundaries at all times with patients, and any one close to them e.g. relatives, friend.
