• Senior Hardware Design Engineer / Electronics Design Engineer / Hardware R&D Engineer role to develop next-generation hardware for rail systems R&D programmes.
• £45K - £53K salary guide + pension + flexible working hours + early finish on a Friday + 25 days holiday and all bank holidays + private health.

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Design / Electronics Design Engineer / to own R&D hardware engineering projects from concept through to delivery. You will combine hands-on technical expertise with the ability to influence the future of rail systems innovation.

Your background as a Senior Hardware Design Engineer:

• Experience in hardware R&D, ideally within the rail industry.
• Proven track record leading hardware projects from inception to completion.
• Expertise in prototyping, testing, and validation methodologies.
• Excellent communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Passion for innovation, mentoring, and driving continuous improvement.

Your role as a Senior Hardware Design Engineer:

• Lead all R&D hardware programmes, accountable for cost, schedule, and performance.
• Define requirements with stakeholders and create clear roadmaps for delivery.
• Drive design and prototyping, ensuring solutions meet lifecycle and approval standards.
• Build test rigs, apply robust validation, and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Compile complete R&D product packages ready for deployment across rail projects.
• Mentor engineers, share knowledge, and build technical excellence into the team.
