About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer to join our Highway Drainage Section in the Environment & Preventative team at Leicestershire County Council.

The successful applicant will join a motivated friendly team of professionals providing support to the Environment and Preventative Manager in the management of the team with specific responsibilities in respect of highway drainage maintenance project delivery and flood risk. They will also provide management and supervision to other team members and managing the case load of team members for whom they have supervisory responsibility.

The nature of the work may involve you carrying out work outside of normal working hours and at different locations than your designated base.

About You

To apply for this post you must:

  • A degree in an appropriate subject (e.g. Civil Engineering or Planning)
    OR equivalent demonstrable work experience of flooding and highway drainage development management.
  • Experience of representing an organisation at a senior level and supporting the development of highway maintenance and flood risk management policies and strategies
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency environment and of supervising and managing members of a team with varied workload both in technical aspects and performance management
  • Experience of interpreting and writing technical and non-technical reports and providing strategic and technical advice to a range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of project management to deliver programmes of work in accordance with LCC policy and budget restraints/monitoring
  • Knowledge of Current legislation relevant to highway drainage maintenance and flood risk management e.g. Highways Act, New Road and Streetworks Act, Land Drainage Act, Flood and Water Management Act; Town and County Planning Act and of strategic highway drainage and flood alleviation issues.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills including the ability to negotiate shape and influence to achieve successful outcomes and to continue to build on the credibility of the Council and its services and creative thinking and effective negotiation to ensure effective assessment and asset investigation is completed in order to inform the potential need for and procuring drainage and flood alleviation works
