Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Site Agent/PM, manage engineering on the project, ensuring works are constructed to the contract drawings, specifications, procedures and plans, whilst managing site and trainee engineers.
- Health, Safety & Environment: writing and checking RAMS and TBS, communicating to the workforce and monitoring compliance; contributing to the achievement of Galldris' safety targets and zero tolerance of unsafe working practices; establishing and implementing site systems and controls consistent with Galldris company standards and project requirements including health, safety and quality systems and project engineering standards; checking permits issued by the Principal Contractor and ensuring they are received in a timely manner for works to proceed.
- Programme & Progress: reviewing the short‑term lookahead programmes and reporting feedback on site; reporting issues on site that may delay programme or progress; assisting with preventing, identifying and rectifying issues on site that may impact the programme.
- Design & Design Assurance: permanent design – familiarise yourself with design drawings, specifications and setting‑out requirements and ensure accurate construction in accordance with requirements; temporary works design – in liaison with TWC, identify temporary works requirements, produce design briefs, understand and communicate temporary works designs to the site team and monitor installation to ensure compliance; MARs – raise material approval records and procure materials in line with the programme; TQs – highlight issues and raise queries from review of drawings and specifications and from site inspections, and raise with relevant parties, drawing sketches where required.
- Quality Management: ITPs – write/check ITPs, communicate to the workforce and check the process is being followed; QA records – keep organised and accurate QA records in accordance with ITPs and project requirements; NCRs & defects – lead on documenting, tracking, closing out and sharing lessons learned to avoid recurrence; quality handover documentation – collate information in accordance with ITPs and handover requirements; quality readiness reviews – lead on readiness reviews whilst capturing lessons learned / improvements.
Key Accountabilities
- Previous experience as Senior Engineer (or similar) for a civil engineering contractor.
- Experience in general civils within a highway's environment, inclusive of site clearance, drainage & service ducts, earthworks, pavements, kerbs & footways and street lighting.
- Good knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary works.
- Strong knowledge of specifications and testing regimes relevant to general civil engineering / specification for highway works.
- Commercially aware and experienced in working in a cost‑conscious environment.
Skills
- Good communication, people and team management skills.
- Ability to speak up on HSEQ matters and lead by example.
- Use of Fieldview / Dalux (or similar) web and mobile BIM software.
- Proficiency in design software, such as AutoCad / Autodesk / Sketchup (desirable).
Qualifications
- Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
- Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers or working towards membership (desirable).
- IOSH Managing Safely or SMSTS certification.
- Valid CSCS card.
- Full UK driving licence.
