Position Overview

The Senior Director of Energy Optimisation & Delivery will lead the strategic execution of the EMEA energy programme, overseeing the transition from Final Investment Decision (FID) through to full operational delivery. This role is accountable for coordinating all aspects of energy infrastructure implementation and energisation, ensuring projects meet company objectives, regulatory standards and customer requirements. Managing multidisciplinary technical and operational teams, the Senior Director will drive efficiency, cost recovery and revenue generation while maintaining reliable energy supply. Once operational, the position is pivotal in optimising performance and championing innovation to deliver sustainable, cost‑effective energy solutions. The role includes direct line management of departmental staff and serves as a critical member of the leadership team, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Energy, EMEA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, motivate, and manage multi‑disciplinary teams comprising technical and operational experts, fostering collaboration and high performance.
  • Own the delivery of the energy strategy post final investment decision, ensuring smooth execution in line with business goals (Construction through to Operations).
  • Oversee the comprehensive delivery and energisation of energy infrastructure, ensuring alignment with company objectives, customer needs and regulatory obligations.
  • Forecast and analyse energy volume requirements, ensuring responsible, data‑driven planning to meet operational and business needs.
  • Develop and implement advanced analytics solutions to accurately predict energy demand and optimise procurement strategies.
  • Negotiate and manage a range of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and green certificates, securing favourable terms to support the organisation’s renewable energy objectives and compliance with sustainability standards.
  • Develop and manage efficient customer billing and revenue management systems, ensuring high levels of accuracy and timely payments.
  • Analyse and report on key energy metrics, trends, and project outcomes to senior leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor energy management programmes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and achieve sustainability targets.
  • Optimise energy systems for lower operational costs, reduced carbon emissions, and a lower total cost of ownership.
  • Integrate and evaluate emerging technologies to maximise energy performance and sustainability.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for energy optimisation and delivery throughout the organisation.
  • Lead collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and industry partners.
  • Mentor, develop, and support team members and individual contributors.
  • Stay current with industry trends and foster innovative approaches to energy management.
Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in operations, energy management and energy project delivery, including 5 years in senior leadership within a multinational, energy‑intensive industry (e.g., data centers, automotive manufacturing, petrochemicals).
  • Proven experience of successfully overseeing teams tasked with the delivery of electrical plant, infrastructure and systems. Demonstrating accountability across topics such as quality, health & safety and cost.
  • Track record of developing and implementing large‑scale energy strategies and leading multi‑disciplinary teams in technical and operational environments.
  • Experience of developing continuous improvement plans and securing investment into initiatives which have resulted in tangible benefits in terms of cost savings, carbon savings and improved customer satisfaction.
  • Extensive experience managing energy procurement across Europe (ideally EMEA) with budgets exceeding €500M, including forecasting energy volumes and leveraging analytics for data‑driven decisions.
  • Proven ability to negotiate PPAs and green certificates, with deep knowledge of market mechanisms and regulatory frameworks across Europe and ideally EMEA.
  • Demonstrated success in driving organisational change and implementing energy‑saving programs in energy‑intensive sectors.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong negotiator.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and people management capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high‑performing teams.
  • Adaptability, proactive mindset, and results orientation.
  • Passion for sustainability, efficiency, and innovation.

Additional Information:

  • Travel may be required within the EMEA region to visit project sites and attend stakeholder meetings.
