Job description

Our client, a leading provider in the water sector, is looking to strengthen their engineering team with a Senior Design Manager based in the North West, with hybrid working options available.

This permanent role involves leading projects through their design phases for a portfolio of projects, ensuring cost-effective, technically compliant, and buildable solutions are delivered in line with all stakeholder requirements, programme expectations, and engineering design procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commitment to excellence in Health & Safety (H&S) in design, complying with all relevant specifications, codes, rules, regulations, and H&S legislation.
  • Identification and management of H&S hazards and effective communication of residual risks to stakeholders.
  • Leading the design team to meet customer requirements and project objectives.
  • Accountability for design expenditure, driving efficiency, and managing overall outturn costs.
  • Organising all design elements, documenting in the Design Management Plan, and preparing monthly status updates.
  • Attending and contributing to relevant programme, project, and technical meetings.
  • Ensuring technical solutions are cost-effective while maintaining quality standards and on-time delivery.
  • Providing technical support during construction, assembly, and commissioning stages as required.
  • Ensuring all technical work adheres to correct standards and specifications, following appropriate systems of work and quality assurance.
  • Contributing to sustainability targets by reducing embodied and operational Carbon Footprints.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with people from various organisations and disciplines.
  • Providing exceptional customer service internally, with partners, and externally with clients and the public.
  • Representing the client company and promoting its reputation in all client contacts.
  • Maintaining a positive and solution-oriented approach to work and providing open and honest feedback.
  • Ensuring confidentiality in all reasonable steps.
Job Requirements
  • Extensive experience in multi-disciplinary design management within a design-build environment.
  • Degree and Chartered Engineer in an engineering-related discipline.
  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification.
  • Delivery-driven with the ability to set targets and manage multi-disciplinary teams to achieve objectives.
  • Working knowledge of CDM regulations and construction Health & Safety.
  • Significant experience in large-scale project delivery.
  • Strategic, operational, technical, and management skills.
  • General knowledge of water treatment, including process, civil, and MEICA engineering aspects.
  • Ability to present technical proposals clearly and confidently.
  • Experience in the Water/Wastewater Treatment Industry would be an advantage
  • Ability to embrace collaborative and innovative working.
  • Knowledge of BIM procedures and techniques.
