Are you ready to lead the delivery of pioneering low-carbon infrastructure? We're seeking a Senior Commercial Manager - Construction to spearhead the rollout of advanced heat networks, renewable energy systems, and other critical infrastructure projects across the UK.

In this senior role, you will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and Estimators, overseeing projects from early development through to operational handover. You'll ensure they are delivered safely on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality-driving excellence at every stage.

Your responsibilities will go far beyond contract management. You'll inspire your team, advocate innovation, and deliver commercial strategies that bring our low-carbon vision to life. The infrastructure you help deliver will be central to the UK's transition to cleaner, greener energy.

At E.ON, we are committed to building a fully decarbonised future. This is your opportunity to make a measurable impact-not just on our business, but on the planet.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the estimating and commercial (QS) functions within the heat networks, construction and major projects team.
  • Lead tendering / pricing exercises and oversee complex bids from initial enquiry, all the way through to the final submission to the client team (external D&B and Capital Investment Projects).
  • Supporting sales, design, project management, procurement and legal teams to structure and continually improve the commercial competitiveness of E.ON’s position, whilst maintaining delivery quality and security of supply.
  • Guide and support project teams in the management and reporting of risk and value-added opportunities whilst ensuring their consideration and / or mitigation are evident in both E.ON’s proposals and throughout the subsequent delivery of CES projects.
  • Shape and steer technical and commercial support to Project teams and to assist in the resolution of conflicts with clients, suppliers and contractors, should they arise;
  • Support the sales teams to establish new opportunities whilst developing existing relationships.
  • Develop business practices and market conditions to evaluate both bid and project responsiveness, contractor responsibility and performance.
  • Continually push the boundaries of best practice whilst also promoting this ethos with stakeholders (both internal and external).

What we need from you

  • Demonstrable industry experience as a Commercial Manager/ Quantity Surveyor in a construction environment.
  • Capable of reviewing engineering / technical drawings (mostly M&E, Civil Engineering) and the ability to analyse, interpret, measure and quantify BOQ / QSORs for multiple trade scopes.
  • Experienced in drafting ITT’s, contractual documentation, and managing scope interfaces and procurement opportunities.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction type contracts: JCT, NEC and UK legislation: CDM, HSSE and the Built Environment and skilled in dispute/avoidance resolution for contractual claims.
  • Analytical in approach and ability to positively influence decisions with structured evidence and thorough knowledge of subject areas.
  • Working knowledge of standard PC software tools (such as MS Office, MS Project, etc) and the ability and willingness to learn new software tools.
  • Leadership and coaching skills with the ability to motivate both team members and the wider group

It would be great if you had

  • Appropriate engineering or commercial qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial on-site generation technologies such as gas engines, steam boilers, absorption chillers, heat pumps, PV, batteries and utility networks (both mechanical and electrical).
  • Working knowledge of planning tools and software. Familiar with lean tools such as 8D and statistical analysis.
  • Strong understanding of commercial impacts.
