Job description
Senior Biomedical Scientist – Diagnostic Cytology and Fresh Tissue Section Lead

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the Histopathology Department. The role is based in a new state‑of‑the‑art facility and involves leading the Diagnostic Cytology and Fresh Tissue Section.

Responsibilities
  • Practice as a Section Leader, performing automated and non‑automated analytical procedures requiring manual dexterity and coordination of workload.
  • Supervise and manage a team within the laboratory.
  • Participate in on‑call and weekend rota for Histopathology.
  • Lead development of laboratory workflow processes and extended working hours for routine work.
  • Attend the Mohs’ Clinic and Thyroid FNA clinic.
  • Implement new technology and processes.
  • Prepare histological and cytological specimens on rotation, focusing on Diagnostic Cytology and fresh tissue.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 15189 and external governing bodies, maintaining standards according to local and national guidelines.
  • Engage in technical, quality, training and education activities within scope of practice.
  • Microscopically examine and report crystals in synovial fluids.
Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should have a strong commitment to personal and professional development, teamwork, and a desire to push the boundaries of current practice. Relevant biomedical science qualifications and experience in histopathology and cytology are required. The role may be unsuitable for Student visa holders unless they have applied for a Graduate visa or qualify for Skilled Worker sponsorship.
