We have a fantastic opportunity available for a Senior Auditor to join our Internal Audit & Investigation Service here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, permanent basis.

As the Senior Auditor, your role will work within statutory, council and government guidelines, ensuring statutory compliance in the delivery of internal audit.

You will provide internal audit and investigation services and advice across a range of Council departments, and to external clients and partners as directed by the Head of Internal Audit & Investigation. This will include providing anti-fraud and anti-corruption awareness across the organisation and supporting key projects within areas such as IT Systems to ensure the internal control, governance and risk management Framework across the Council is sound, effective and efficient.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Undertake Internal Audit across a wide range of audit assignments from the approved Internal Audit Plan.
  • Work within statutory, Council and Government guidelines and ensuring statutory compliance in the delivery of internal audit (IIA's Global Internal Audit Standards & Audit and Accounting Regulations).
  • Maintain and update the knowledge of Internal Audit throughout the Council including developing best practice and contributing to continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Undertake follow up reviews to ensure that treated concerns raised have been implemented, obtaining the required evidence to support the implementation.
  • Provide advice and input to the delivery of excellent customer service within the Council and to external clients.
  • Focus on securing value for money, being agile and adopting a commercial approach.
Candidate Requirements:
  • Relevant qualification, or equivalent experience in internal audit or working towards membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Good knowledge of legislative frameworks surrounding the area of internal audit.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including presentations using appropriate MS office software.
  • Ability to understand multiple processes/systems within different Business Areas in order to undertake effective audit testing.
  • Effective at building reports to support recommendations and decision making.
  • Able to interrogate & analyse data and information using data analytical techniques.
