Job description
Overview

Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust offers a remote, full-time opportunity. You will be an Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) working as part of a large team to abstract and analyse clinical information from digitised case notes and other documents, and translate this into diagnostic and operative procedure codes, using current classifications. Data will be input onto the Trust’s patient information system to meet financial and statistical data commitments.

Responsibilities
  • Abstract and analyse relevant clinical data from digitised case notes, laboratory reports and discharge summaries, among other sources.
  • Translate complex clinical data into coded entries using national (OPCS-4) and international (ICD-10) classifications, adhering to national standards and conventions.
  • Input coded clinical information into the Trust’s patient information system, in conjunction with a clinical encoder, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Liaise with the data quality team to ensure correct episode data on the patient hospital system.
  • Work within deadlines while maintaining high quality and accuracy of clinical coding; effectively manage assigned workload.
  • Continue professional education and development to refresh clinical coding skills and stay up to date with code assignment, methodology and local policy amendments.
  • Participate in in-house audits to promote accuracy and consistency of clinical coding and representation of activity and case-mix within the Trust.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all coded and other patient information.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC).
  • Ability to work independently and code accurately to national coding guidelines with little or no supervision.
  • Strong organisational skills to prioritise day-to-day work; physically capable of sitting for prolonged periods and using computer systems.
  • Keep up to date on changes to code assignment, coding methodology and local policy amendments.
  • Willingness to participate in audits and professional development.
