Job summary

4Recruitment Services are seeking a SEND Specialist Outreach Worker to work for our client based in Halifax.

The purpose of the SEND Specialist Outreach Worker role is to enable a Local Authority (LA) to:

  • Promote and sustain the inclusion of children and young people (CYP) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their local, mainstream schools and educational settings
  • Build capacity within educational settings to ensure that CYP with SEND have their needs identified and assessed as early as possible
  • Enable schools and settings to implement a high‑quality graduated cycle of assessment, planning, doing, and reviewing their support.
  • Ensure a continuum of provision for CYP with and SEND across the borough so that they have access to the right support, at the right time and in the right way.
  • Uphold the legal obligations and principles enshrined in equalities law so that all CYP with SEND are free from discrimination and can live their best lives
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Provide ongoing, flexible casework to monitor the extent and quality to which schools and educational settings have implemented and embedded recommendations for CYP with vision or multisensory impairments (VI/MSI) and SEND.
  • Establish and sustain positive working relationships with schools and educational settings across the borough to continue to build capacity for them to meet the needs of CYP with VI/MSI/SEND.
  • Engage with individual CYP with VI/MSI/SEND and their families to support the development of effective strategies to meet their needs.
    • Take responsibility for a specific allocated specialism and use skills, knowledge, and experience to make relevant assessments of CYP with VI/MSI/SEND and provide recommendations and training to colleagues, schools and educational settings in relation to areas of your specialism
    • Undertake specific interventions with individuals and groups of CYP with VI/MSI/SEND, where appropriate, teaching and modelling effective practice to colleagues in schools and educational settings.
    • Work closely with individuals and groups of CYP with SEND/MSI/VI and their families to listen to their views and support them in understanding and implementing relevant recommendations for support.
    • Work with schools and educational settings to trouble‑shoot and work toward the resolution of any problems arising from the implementation of recommendations from SEND professionals.
    • Provide information and, where required, reports on progress for individuals and groups of CYP with SEND/Sensory impairments.
    • Undertake relevant training, supervision, and development to be able to work effectively with schools and educational settings to meet the needs of CYP with a variety of SEND and sensory impairments.
    • Contribute as required by the SEND Regulations 2014 to Education, Health and Care assessments, planning and reviews.
    • Collaborate effectively with colleagues within and outside of the SIT, including parents/carers and CYP themselves, to ensure a joined‑up approach to meeting CYP s needs both on an individual and strategic level.
    • Work collaboratively with the SEND Specialist Officers, Teachers, and Coordinators to reflect on, review and implement specialist recommendations.
    • Signpost appropriately to other relevant support and assessment services that can be accessed by CYP with VI/MSI/SEND, their families, and their schools and educational settings.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:
  • A relevant qualification in SEND or a related field
  • Level 3 or above (e.g. A level, L3 NVQ, Advanced Apprenticeship) or equivalent CY1 AR2
  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purpose
  • Using/implementing and creating specific VI/MSI/SEND resources, interventions, and support systems
  • Arranging and running interventions with individuals and/or groups of CYP with VI/MSI/SEND
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practice models of SEND in your area of specialism
  • Skills and confidence to work directly with CYP with VI/MSI/SEND and complex presentations
  • Knowledge and understanding of SEND and appreciation of the barriers that CYP with VI/MSI/SEND face in the classroom
  • Experience, skills and confidence in providing support to CYP with VI/MSI/SEND
  • Enhanced DBS
