Overview

Job Title: SEND Complaints Officer - Work from Home | Somerset Council

Somerset Council is seeking an experienced SEND Complaints Officer to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will manage and investigate complaints relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), working closely with schools, professionals, families, and service providers. This is a remote-friendly position, offering flexibility while making a real difference in the lives of children and young people across Somerset.

Responsibilities
  • Receive, log, and manage complaints regarding SEND provision.
  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations, liaising with schools, local services, and professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory guidance, including the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Communicate investigation outcomes clearly, sensitively, and professionally to complainants.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce reports on complaints and resolutions.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience as a Complaints Officer, Complaints Manager, or similar role, preferably in education, local government, or social care.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND statutory guidance and the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Excellent investigation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience liaising with schools, service providers, and families.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Comfortable working remotely with excellent organisational skills.
