Behaviour Support Assistant – Secondary SEMH School (Salford)

Teaching Personnel are seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a dynamic and nurturing SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) secondary school in Salford. The school supports young people who may present with challenging behaviours, trauma‑related needs, ASD/ADHD traits, attachment difficulties, social communication barriers and emotional dysregulation. Key Responsibilities

In this vital role, you will:

• Support students on a one‑to‑one and small‑group basis, helping them manage behaviour, regulate emotions and remain engaged in learning.
• Build trusting, positive relationships that encourage young people to communicate, reflect and develop healthier responses to challenges.
• Implement behaviour intervention strategies set by senior leaders, including de‑escalation, restorative approaches and personalised support plans.
• Assist teaching staff in creating purposeful, structured learning environments, ensuring students feel safe, understood and supported.
• Monitor, record and report behavioural patterns, contributing to tailored intervention plans and safeguarding documentation.
• Promote resilience, confidence and positive social skills, acting as a consistent role model for pupils who require additional guidance.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour (school, youth work, residential care or mentoring settings welcome).
• An Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to apply through Teaching Personnel.
• A calm, compassionate and reliable approach when supporting students in crisis.
• Strong communication skills, emotional intelligence and the ability to remain consistent under pressure.
• A genuine passion for helping vulnerable young people achieve their potential.
