School Nurse (Maternity cover)

Salary: In line with NHS Agenda for Change Band Six

Contract: Temporary, term-time only maternity cover (up to 12 months)

Hours: 36 hours per week, annualised across term-time (34 weeks per year plus 5.6 weeks’ holiday)

Are you a skilled and compassionate nurse looking to make a real difference in young people’s lives? St Edward’s is seeking a dedicated School Nurse to join our team for maternity cover from January 2026.

This is a rewarding opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to bring your clinical expertise into a welcoming and professional educational environment. You will play a vital role in supporting our pupils’ health and wellbeing, providing direct care, managing medications, promoting health education, and collaborating closely with colleagues, parents, and healthcare providers. You’ll enjoy term-time working while making a tangible impact on the wellbeing of our students.

Key responsibilities
  • Delivering first aid, emergency care, and ongoing health support to pupils.
  • Developing and managing healthcare plans for pupils with chronic conditions.
  • Providing medical cover at sports fixtures and school trips.
  • Playing an active pastoral and medical role within boarding houses.
  • Promoting health awareness and providing training to staff.

The post is based on 36 hours per week, worked across a rota of shifts that are published in advance each term.

About you

We are seeking a Registered Nurse (Adult or Child) with current NMC registration and post-registration experience in a relevant setting (such as paediatrics, A&E, community nursing, or adolescent health). You should have excellent clinical skills, strong communication abilities, and a flexible, empathetic approach.

This is a varied, fulfilling role in a supportive school environment, well-suited to nurses who enjoy working independently while also being part of a dedicated team.
