Job description

We are looking for a caring, reliable, and enthusiastic School Caretaker to support the maintenance of the school building and grounds, and also the daily care of animals while working alongside children in an educational setting. This is a temporary, part‑time role ideal for someone with a passion for animal welfare and supporting young people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Routine maintenance of school buildings and grounds, including minor repair work such as changing light bulbs, erecting shelves, painting and redecorating, minor plumbing.
  • Grounds maintenance including grass cutting.
  • Daily care, feeding, cleaning, and welfare of animals and maintenance of animal enclosures.
  • Cleaning duties including litter, bins, toilets, and assistance with deep cleaning of classroom and school pool/changing rooms.
  • Porterage of heavy objects such as stock, furniture, or equipment.
  • Ensuring the school has sufficient stock of cleaning resources.
  • Support the school policies and procedures, for example relating to child safeguarding and data protection, supporting and supervising children during animal‑related activities and contributing to the trust ethos as a whole.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience working in a school, preferably as a school caretaker.
  • Experience working with animals (preferred).
  • Experience working with children or young people (preferred).
  • Patient, responsible, and approachable.
  • Strong commitment to safeguarding and animal welfare.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
