Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an MV/HV Commissioning Engineer for a site-based role in London & South West. The successful candidate will implement electrical safety rules, advise on high-voltage installations, and oversee commissioning of grid connections. Applicants should have substantial experience in high-voltage electricity, preferably offshore, and relevant electrical qualifications. The contract is for 6 months with a competitive salary between £650 and £800 per day, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Several years of operation and commissioning experience within high-voltage electricity.
  • Extensive working experience with onshore substation systems.
  • Complete and up-to-date GWO and HUET certifications.

Job Overview
Position: MV/HV Commissioning Engineer
Location: London & South West (site-based, regional travel)
Salary: £650 – £800 per day, depending on experience
Contract: 6‑month rolling (start ASAP or November 2025)

Responsibilities
  • Implementation of the client’s Electrical Safety Rules on site, including the safe system of work.
  • Advise operationally on high‑voltage electrical installations to wind turbine generators (WTG), offshore substations, and both HV submarine and onshore cables.
  • Oversee safe commissioning of grid connections, onshore substations and associated MV/HV/LV plant and equipment.
  • Oversee all MV/HV/LV electrical operational activities to ensure safety, security and integrity of the HV network.
  • Act as the Senior Authorised Person for HV/MV/LV systems.
  • Plan, manage, prepare and execute electrical works, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and project specifications.
Qualifications
  • Several years of operation and commissioning experience within the field of high‑voltage electricity; offshore experience preferable.
  • Extensive working experience within onshore substation systems.
  • Appropriate electrical qualification and background related to the authorisation scope.
  • Complete and up‑to‑date GWO and HUET, with CA‑EBS when required by site (climbing gear person weight limit – 120 kg/264 lb).
