As a Sales Engineer at Chromalox, the individual plays a pivotal role in designing and estimating electrical heaters and heating systems tailored for clients across diverse industries, including oil and gas, nuclear, food and beverage, renewal, and energy sectors in the UK, and provides solutions and services globally. They are responsible for providing comprehensive solutions that meet client requirements while contributing to positive thermal losses. This involves engaging with clients to clarify needs, generating high‑quality quotations, and managing orders to ensure seamless execution. Moreover, the Sales Engineer evaluates market trends and opportunities across these sectors, driving strategic decision‑making. Importantly, the role underscores Chromalox’s commitment to sustainability, with a focus on reducing carbon emissions and environmental impact. By introducing smarter, technologically advanced solutions, the Sales Engineer actively promotes our Electrical Thermal Solutions to decarbonization and other industries, thus offering clients innovative and sustainable heating solutions tailored to their specific needs.
Responsibilities
- Research, analyse and provide custom solutions via consultative modality for existing industrial applications to enhance energy and operational efficiency and promote greener practices.
- Use a consultative selling approach, prioritising and understanding client needs to provide a solution using various products, services and our expertise, fostering trust and long‑term relationships.
- Meet with customers and organise site visits to understand their applications to deliver a comprehensive solution.
- Assist in critical sectors such as oil and gas, energy, nuclear industries and decarbonisation where installation of complex heating technologies is required.
- Possess essential knowledge of the Chemical and Process Industry to understand various thermal solution requirements and the key parameters to consider redesigning the heating system.
- Identify business opportunities within existing and new customers by converting leads into enquiries and into actual sales, focusing on both standard and custom solutions to meet diverse requirements.
- Manage customer accounts to nurture long‑term relationships and foster business growth, taking a results‑oriented approach to sales leadership.
- Communicate effectively with customers to showcase Chromalox’s capabilities and achieve optimal results, while also collaborating with intercompany departments to streamline administrative tasks and support order processing.
- Provide support across various departments including production, purchasing, engineering, service and commissioning, ensuring seamless operations and customer satisfaction.
- Assist in the design, estimation and quoting of heaters and control panels, adhering to customer specifications and delivering economically viable solutions.
- Analyse designs and produce detailed quote specifications to maintain profitability, negotiating acceptable terms on behalf of the company.
- Validate cost estimates and ensure accurate transfer of information for order processing, while also liaising with the Drawing Office to ensure technical accuracy.
- Proactively engage with customers to maximise order conversions and provide exceptional service, while also offering expertise and advice to enhance understanding and support within the Engineering and Production departments.
- Work and collaborate with other Sales Engineers responsible for the design of corresponding process heating systems in the UK, France, USA and other group companies such as Vulcanic, Isopad Germany etc.
Additional Duties
- Perform day‑to‑day administrative tasks such as generating pro‑forma invoices, order booking folders and monitoring forms, ensuring efficient management on the server.
- Collaborate with the group company and Quick Response Centre (QRC) manager to oversee the booking, collection and dispatch of products, ensuring prompt delivery to customers.
- Address shipping‑related inquiries promptly, delivering excellent customer service by resolving issues related to shipping and customs clearance for both local and international clients.
- Ensure compliance with packing lists, invoices, Certificates of Origin (COO) and other shipping documents, collaborating closely with customers and freight forwarders.
- Coordinate with project managers and other departments as needed for product packing, obtaining shipping quotations, managing freight forwarders and coordinating transportation.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineering, production, quality teams and logistics to obtain necessary documentation such as Certificates of Origin, SASO, EUR1, ATR etc. from the Chamber of Commerce.
Qualifications
The Sales Engineer is required to possess a BSc degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline. Experience in working with and selling processes, particularly in electrical heating processes or similar technologies, is advantageous. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of import and export legislation.
