Areyou a General Practitioner with passion for delivering high-quality,patient-centred care? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you at the Cowley Road Medical Practice, a vibrant,community-focused GP practice in East Oxford.

We are looking for a GP on a permanent contract to work three to nine sessions a week, with an option of becoming the Safeguarding Lead with protected admin time and additional remuneration for this Lead element.

You will be supported by, and work with, a diverse multi skilled professional team of clinical and non-clinical approachable staff. In return you will provide high quality, person centred clinical care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The role will incorporate all the various aspects of day to day general practice in a combination of acute presentation of patients (through duty doctor sessions) as well as chronic disease/long term conditions monitoring and management (through routine telephone/face to face appointment sessions).

In the role, you will provide:

  • GMSservices to the patient population of Cowley, Oxford.
  • A contribution to clinical administration duties.
  • A number of duty clinician sessions throughout the week.
  • Optional for the right candidate - Provide Safeguarding Leadership to both the Clinical and non clinical teams.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
  • To provide assessment, diagnosis & treatment at first point of contact from a triage list & act as an autonomous clinician, with support from clinical colleagues.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose & manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition.
  • Diagnose & manage both acute & chronic conditions, integrating both drug & non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan.
  • To accurately triage & prioritise patients, including in emergency situations, demonstrating the use of a variety of techniques to elicit the history of an event/illness, including past medical & drug history.
  • Provide assessment, diagnosis & treatment for those patients who need to be seen in their place of residence.
  • To evaluate clinical information from examination & history taking & initiate appropriate treatment and / or referral, including admission to hospital if required.
  • To signpost appropriately to other services in the identified healthcare pathway & to refer patients to appropriate care settings, within locally agreed healthcare pathways.
  • To maintain accurate & systematic documentation of patient interactions & clinical care provided, including adverse events.
  • To advise & support members of the public on healthy lifestyles, health promotion & disease prevention.
  • Fulfil clinical administrative workload (i.e. pathology results and DocMan).
Communication
  • To liaise & interact with multi-professional teams across organisational boundaries, including primary care, social services & secondary care providers according to patient needs & appropriate care pathways.
  • To maintain communication with all healthcare professionals & outside agencies to ensure seamless, patient-centred service provision.
  • To ensure effective communication so that the patient receives the appropriate level of care & wherever possible avoid unnecessary hospital admission.
  • To take an active role in maintaining expert communication with all patients, carers & relatives which meets their individual needs.
  • To deal with complaints in a calm & courteous manner, ensuring that complaints are dealt with efficiently & satisfactorily in accordance with local protocols.
  • To communicate effectively in demanding & challenging situations.
Professional
  • To input to & extract information from clinical IT system.
  • To work collaboratively with other members of the health care team such as the District Nursing Team, Mental Health Services, staff in Care Homes, Ambulance Service, and Secondary Care etc.
  • To ensure that the wellbeing of patients & staff is maintained in accordance with Practice policies.
  • To undertake clinical audits in line with the organisations clinical audit plan, & to participate as required in equipment testing & other research.
  • To contribute to the analysis of information to inform future development of the service.
  • To participate & contribute to clinical meetings.
  • To identify risks to service provision & highlight them to the Clinical Lead.
  • To work within the requirements of Data Protection legislation as it applies to patient records.
  • To maintain current professional registration & indemnity.

Person Specification
Experience
  • GP Vocational or additional experience in general practice.
  • Committed to quality customer care/delivering excellent customer service.

  • Experience in a Safeguarding or Clinical Lead role.
