This is a great opportunity to join the GMMH Risk Team. The postholder will bring their own expertise, learn quickly, and lead with kindness and compassion, demonstrating our values in all they do.
Reporting directly to the Director of Corporate Affairs, the postholder will day‑to‑day manage risk across the organisation, working with lead managers to ensure high quality arrangements and effective advice.
Main responsibilities
- Promote a positive risk management culture within the Trust, utilising communication and engagement techniques to raise awareness and encourage involvement.
- Ensure the maintenance of the Corporate Risk Register.
- Hold regular meetings with Executives, Senior Managers and Department Heads to provide advice on risk registers, assessment, categorisation of risks and controls to reduce risks.
- Ensure all divisions and directorates develop and implement local risk management practices compliant with the Risk Management Framework.
- Devise and provide risk management training to an agreed training needs analysis that includes members of divisional management teams and corporate functions, ensuring the system is understood and implemented effectively.
- Monitor compliance with the Risk Management Framework by devising a rolling audit programme and supporting any review by the Trust’s Internal Auditors.
- Support the development, implementation and maintenance of relevant policies and standard operating procedures in one's area, and actively propose policy or service changes that impact beyond that area, including participation in working groups on policy changes across the Trust.

- Education / Qualifications
- Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Desirable: Relevant risk management qualification.
- Desirable: Post Graduate Diploma in relevant subject or working towards one.
- Experience
- Essential: Experience of working with incident and risk management system.
- Essential: Experience of analysing and interpreting data.
- Essential: Experience of designing and delivering training and presentations.
- Essential: Experience of working with staff at all levels of seniority.
- Essential: Experience in managing teams.
- Essential: Understanding of the incident reporting and reviewing process.
- Essential: Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to drive and motivate individual teams.
- Desirable: Experience of working in NHS healthcare.
- Desirable: Experience of writing reports.
- Desirable: Policy development and implementation.
- Knowledge
- Essential: Knowledge of good risk management practice, e.g. The Orange Book.
- Essential: Knowledge of incident and risk management systems.
- Skills and Abilities
- Essential: Ability to negotiate and influence others.
- Essential: Computer literate and familiar with incident and policy databases.
- Essential: Experience of producing and presenting high‑level reports.
- Essential: Good analytical and judgement skills & experience of making decisions under difficult circumstances.
- Essential: Ability to analyse, interpret and present complex quantitative and qualitative data to a range of audiences.

- The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. This requires a fee of £16 per year and registration throughout employment with GMMH.
