Retail Shift Leader: Customer Focus & Team Coach

Job summary

One Stop, a Tesco subsidiary, is seeking a Shift Leader to join our fast-paced retail team. You will run duty shifts, coordinate a team, and ensure a clean, well-presented store that exceeds customer expectations.

With the customer at heart, you will coach colleagues on the shop floor, monitor store performance, and take hands-on actions to improve service and safety. You will serve as the face of the store during shifts, resolving queries and maintaining smooth operations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
• Open/close the store and complete duty cover, ensuring decisions are right for customers and safety
• Be the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager
• Support the Store Manager to coordinate seasonal, community and charity events
• Ensure the store is clean, tidy and well presented
• Prioritise the replenishment of products that matter to our customers
• Ensure point of sale and shelf edge labels reflect what good looks like
• Take immediate action for any overcharges and prevent recurrence
• Proactively manage queues in store to deliver a great shopping trip for our customers
• Coordinate colleagues to meet the needs of customers and the operations of the store
• Follow company health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
• Deliver communication to the team and keep them well informed
• Look for ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager
• Always put the customer first in everything
• Resolve customer queries promptly
• Adjust service to meet customer needs
• Recognise and celebrate colleagues giving great service
• Understand obstacles to delivering great service and remove them
• Resolve colleagues queries or escalate to Store Manager when appropriate
• Ensure the store is staffed appropriately and manage short-term absences
• Be a recognised Keyholder for the store and attend alarm call outs
• Monitor internal communications and ensure messages are actioned
• Coordinate colleagues to meet customer and store needs and report issues
• Balance time across service and replenishment
• Support Store Manager in managing absence and return-to-work interviews
• Build relationships with Area Manager and People Partner for coaching
• If applicable, pass Post Office checks and background checks
