Job description
Primary Function

Responsible for providing respiratory care and assisting with the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation for a range of cardiopulmonary diseases and disorders.

Responsibilities
  • Perform respiratory therapy treatments according to physician orders, including aerosol medication delivery, lung expansion and airway clearance modalities, maintenance of natural and artificial airways, care planning, and patient education.
  • Obtain arterial blood from radial artery for blood gas analysis. Interpret results and recommend appropriate treatment to physician.
  • Provide ventilator management, including initiation, maintenance, monitoring, assessment, input in rounds, and liberation. Perform nasal, oral and pharyngeal suctioning.
  • Provide rapid response assessment and emergency care, including airway management, CPR, trauma care, manual and mechanical ventilatory support, and oxygenation support.
  • Provide support and monitoring for patient transport within the Hospital and to other hospitals using portable ventilators, manual resuscitators oxygen delivery systems, and monitors.
  • Set up and administer oxygen using a variety of devices.
  • Perform charges, record keeping, and equipment changes and reprocessing as required.
  • Record pertinent information in the patient's medical record regarding therapy provided, medication administered, and patient response.
  • Provide pertinent information to oncoming staff to ensure safe patient handoffs.
  • Provide patient and family education to assist in self-care and care transitions.
  • Train employees and students in day-to-day procedures. May be responsible for overseeing and prioritizing care in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications and Specifications

Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy and NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist credential is required, Registered Respiratory Therapist credential preferred. RI Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required. A minimum of six months job‑related experience or equivalent is preferred.
