Job Overview

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. A vacancy has become available for a Renal Technician at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Trust. The post holder is responsible for maintaining and repairing dialysis machines and related equipment across the Sussex Kidney Unit, covering the Royal Sussex County Hospital main unit and satellite units at Worthing and Bexhill, as well as home patient machines throughout the county.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide autonomous technical and scientific support, working 37.5 hours per week with a 24/7 on‑call system covering hospital areas and home patients.
  • Service and monitor dialysis equipment, maintaining it to manufacturer specifications and ensuring safe operational standards.
  • Handle complex day‑to‑day technical problems, including maintenance, repair, calibration, clinical support and advice on a broad range of medical equipment.
  • Communicate complex equipment issues to clinical colleagues, patients and carers, acting as lead technician for specific equipment types or clinical areas.
  • Participate in an emergency out‑of‑hours on‑call system, providing cover to all hospital areas and particularly support to home patients.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Minimum of a higher national certificate in a relevant science or engineering field.
  • Ideally experience in renal technology or other clinical engineering background.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential to travel across Sussex, visiting satellite units, patients in the community and providing home‑based service.
Working Conditions

The role involves travel across Sussex, visiting satellite units and patients in their own homes. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week with 24/7 on‑call commitments to support all hospital areas and home patient service. The Renal Technical department maintains 126 haemodialysis machines and associated equipment across three main sites, including 87 at RSCH, 21 at Bexhill, 18 at Worthing, and a fleet of 20 home patient machines.
