Job summary

A local council waste management service is searching for a Refuse & Recycling Loader to manage the collection of food waste and other materials. Refuse & Recycling Loader

About Us

In recent years, East Staffordshire has experienced significant housing growth, and the waste management team currently collects refuse and recycling from over 55,000 properties each week. The team currently has several vacancies for Refuse & Recycling Loaders to support the delivery of our new food waste collection service. This role will complement our existing team and help maintain our high service standards.

The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for all duties connected with the collection of domestic food waste and other waste streams to support the Council's waste management operation.

There is a requirement to work on public and bank holidays and occasionally weekends to ensure the provision of an efficient and effective service.

Skills & Experience

Previous experience of working in a waste collection environment is desirable, including the use of bin lift/compaction equipment and acting as a reversing assistant. You should be a good team player, have good customer care skills and enjoy working outdoors in all weathers. The role requires a considerable amount of walking and you should be health and safety conscious as you will be operating machinery and working on the highways. You will also have excellent customer care and communication skills and ideally previous experience of working with in the waste industry but, if not, full training will be provided.

For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to undertake HGV training in order to support the Environment team and individual career progression.
