The Air Finance Team consists of three functional areas; Finance Business Partners, Specialist Services and Finance Operations, which all sit within the Director of Resources area of responsibility, interacting with numerous stakeholders across the Command.

This recruitment is for 3 Executive Officer positions within the Finance Operations, Financial Management Reporting team.

The team is made up of approximately 60 personnel, divided into 14 sub teams.

The post offers the opportunity to build upon financial, communicating and influencing and leadership skills whilst working as part of a large, friendly, and flexible team. We are looking for proactive individuals to produce timely and robust financial information that provide recommendations to senior management. Job holders will be required to liaise with stakeholders including wider finance colleagues (Civilian and Military), RAF Stations and Units and Senior Managers; therefore, proven communication skills are essential.

Professional Finance qualifications are not essential. Air Command is building a learning culture within the Function and your continued development is important to us, therefore support may be available for you, to undertake further appropriate qualifications or attend CPD events.

We are based at Headquarters Air Command at RAF High Wycombe; an attractive place to work, located in the village of Walters Ash. There are good public transport links with regular bus services to/from Aylesbury and High Wycombe as well as free car parking on site.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week and is suitable for hybrid working. Job holders may work from home or another MOD site, with regular attendance at High Wycombe as required based on individual, team, and business needs.

Job description

The Financial Management Reporting team is responsible for conducting all foundation financial activities regarding Air Command, through owning report production and initial financial analysis. The team provides an efficient and effective In-Year Management (IYM) and Annual Budget Cycle (ABC) reporting function across Air Command units.

The In Year Management team is responsible for producing timely and accurate monthly financial forecasting services to Air TLB (Top Level Budget), producing monthly forecasts, and processing accruals and pre-payments, to support the wider group financial position, each month.

This role is the focal point for the Business Managers across Air Command, therefore forming relationships with key stakeholders is essential.

You will closely liaise with a number of RAF stations to ensure correct financial information is submitted in a timely manner to support monthly forecasts as well as annual planning cycles.

Some travel to RAF stations in your areas of responsibility may be undertaken in order to forge better working relationships and to develop your understanding of the areas within your role.

Communication in this role is key as is the ability to forge great working relationships with a wide range of individuals.

Person specification
  • Calculate a robust monthly forecast for Basic Level Budgets, submitting forecasts within TLB guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Business Managers to maintain accurate data and up to date business information within commentary workbooks to conduct meaningful variance analysis.
  • Generate accruals, prepayments, deferred income journals and process mis-booking corrections.
  • Process Control Total (CT) Transfers.
  • Collaborate with Business Managers to update and manage Business Plans to incorporate known changes and business as usual output.
  • Complete AP0 process on an annual basis.
  • Pull through automated data into workbooks and Monthly Finance Packs (MFRs).
  • Support FMR HEOs with Run Rate and Forecast Accuracy Returns.
  • Assist Finance Business Partners with taskers and provide data when requested.
  • Assist wider Fin Ops with ad-hoc tasks.
  • Liaise and build upon existing relationships with station Business Managers.
