Qualifications

  • Proven experience in quantity surveying, preferably in groundworks or residential civil engineering.
  • Strong commercial awareness with attention to detail.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend sites.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans, and valuations.
  • Complete take-offs and produce accurate tender submissions.
  • Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and variations.
  • Prepare and agree interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Track project costs, forecasts, and cash flow.
  • Work closely with site teams and clients to resolve commercial matters.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation.
  • Support monthly commercial and financial reporting.

Skills

Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in groundworks or residential civil engineering
Strong commercial awareness
Excellent attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Clear communication, negotiation, and organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects independently

Education

Overview

A well-established residential groundworks contractor is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial delivery of multiple housing developments across County Durham. Role Summary

The Quantity Surveyor will manage all commercial and financial aspects of residential groundworks projects—from tender through to final account—ensuring profitability, accuracy, and compliance throughout.
