David Reekie and Sons Ltd, a long-established, family-owned engineering company operating across dynamic sectors including aerospace, medical, nuclear and MOD, we're looking for a dedicated Quality Inspector to join our high-performing team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in our manufacturing process and help uphold the exceptional standards our customers depend on.

The Role

The Quality Inspector will be required to ensure that all machined parts and products meet quality standards through inspections, including visual, dimensional, and functional checks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting inspections: Performing first off and final inspections of machined parts, assemblies, and components using various tools and equipment.
  • Interpreting documentation: Reading and understanding engineering drawings, 3D models, technical specifications, and quality standards and identify defects.
  • Using inspection equipment: Operating tools like calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
  • Documenting results: Accurately recording inspection findings, creating reports, and initiating non-conformance reports (NCRs) when necessary.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving: Identifying the root cause of quality issues, working with Operations Manager and production teams to implement corrective actions, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintaining equipment: Ensuring inspection equipment is routinely calibrated, maintained, and in good working order.
  • Collaborating with teams: Working closely with machinists, engineers, and quality control personnel to ensure quality standards are met and continually approve.
  • Adhering to safety and quality standards: Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, following all safety protocols, and adhering to quality control procedures.
Skills And Qualifications
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot quality issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate with all team members and build strong working relationships.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy are essential.
  • Team Development: Confidence to pass on experience and coach other team members in the use of inspection tooling and processes.
  • IT Literate: Able to accurately document all finding for client and business data recording purposed.
  • Machining Knowledge: A strong machining background with technical and mechanical knowledge in a manufacturing environment.
Work Pattern

Normal Working Hours Are As Follows

Mon-Thurs: 0745hrs to 1610hrs - 10min paid tea break, 25 min unpaid lunch break

Fri: 0745hrs to 1245hrs - 10 min paid tea break

Holiday

33 days a year, including 8 public holidays.

Benefits
  • 37 hours per week, basic rate is £19.26/hr.
  • Potential overtime of around 300 hours per year
  • Ongoing Learning & Development for progression within the role. Including nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Holiday entitlement, 25 days annual holidays and 8 days of public holidays each holiday year, all paid at holiday rate. (Based on the last 52 worked weeks)
  • One additional day annual holiday for every 7 years' service completed.
  • Company pension scheme, offering 5% company contribution.
  • Company discretionary sick pay, after first year.
