Job description

Straight-Line are currently hiring a Quality Engineer to work with a chemical engineering company based in West Bromwich.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure all the QC equipment is calibrated, maintained and fit for use.
  • Responsible for analytical method development and method verification/validation for all new projects.
  • Responsible for creating STMs for new methods developed.
  • Ensure all the analysts are trained on the new methods developed during R&D phase and on STMs when the products proceed to production.
  • Ensure service contracts for all the equipment are timely renewed and maintained at the optimum price possible.
  • Operate, calibrate and check analytical equipment, observing good laboratory practice.
  • Under the supervision of the Quality Control Manager, carry out the investigation of equipment and material failures.
  • Maintain reagent, equipment, parts and spares stock levels and ensure reagents are within expiry dates.
  • Perform the validation process of standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare small samples for customers and dispatch as per special instructions.
  • Carry out analysis, to aid in the development and improvement of plant process and Quality Control standard operating procedures.
  • Setting up test methods and specifications for new products on Sage and LIMS.
  • Provide analytical cover in shifts, when required.
Person Specification:
  • An understanding of a broad range of analytical chemistry techniques.
  • Competence in analytical method development and method validation.
  • A good knowledge and experience in analytical equipment troubleshooting.
  • A good knowledge and understanding of software backups and set-up.
  • Competence in specific analytical techniques (where applicable).
  • An understanding of environmental monitoring techniques (where applicable).
  • An understanding of deviation reporting and out-of-specification results procedures.

Salary - £35,000 (flexible and dependent upon experience).
