Job description

Quality Engineer | Chesterfield | £45,000‑£60,000 | Full‑time | Start date: As soon as possible

A respected and growing manufacturer within the UK rail supply chain is seeking a Quality Engineer to take ownership of quality across the business. With increasing demand and rising quotation volumes, this is a key opportunity to step into a role where you can genuinely influence performance, culture, and long‑term improvement.

This organisation is looking for someone who can manage quality, not simply carry out quality tasks. You’ll be proactive, customer‑focused, and confident in identifying issues, understanding root causes, and driving preventative measures that strengthen the business.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Managing Director (depending on experience), you’ll play a central role in shaping how quality is embedded across the organisation. The business is transitioning from a reactive approach to a preventative, performance‑driven culture — and you’ll be at the heart of that change.

Key objectives for the First 12 Months
  • Navigating contract changes
  • Driving performance improvements
  • Delivering results through influence rather than instruction
  • Promoting and embedding cultural change
First‑Year Deliverables
  • Strengthen and improve quality systems
  • Maintain quarterly performance targets
  • Ensure baseline processes remain effective and consistent
  • Develop a forward plan for the next four quarters
About You

You’ll bring both technical expertise and ambition, thriving in a regulated engineering environment and eager to grow with the business.

Essential experience
  • Specialist Quality Engineer or Quality Manager
  • Background in regulated industries such as rail, military, aviation, oil & gas, or heavy vehicles
  • Ambitious, driven, and keen to develop within a growing organisation

Closing date: Friday 13th February
