Job description
Overview

New Bridge School’s Autism Base is a consistent environment for students with a diagnosis of autism and associated complex needs. The curriculum mirrors that of the main school and students enjoy all subjects and full access to the school’s facilities. The main focus is on developing social interaction, self‑ and sensory regulation and communication skills, supporting pupils to express their wants, needs and emotions in more appropriate ways. These pupils are working towards a future community role and are likely to require lifelong support. Class teachers focus largely on EHCP outcomes and deliver the majority of subjects; enrichment subjects such as PE, Music and Art are delivered by specialist teachers. Class groups range between 6‑7 pupils and have a higher staff‑to‑pupil ratio.

Responsibilities
  • Be an excellent practitioner with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils’ learning and development.
  • Have experience teaching young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector or a specific interest in developing teaching skills in a special school setting.
  • Have high expectations of young people and a commitment to raising standards of attainment to ensure they achieve their full educational potential.
  • Have experience of enhancing pupil progress gains and raising attainment and achievement levels of all students.
  • Be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation through imaginative and differentiated lessons that meet individual needs.
  • Have experience of current assessment practice and the use of data and pupil progress tracking to ensure all groups of learners achieve.
  • Possess the emotional and physical resilience necessary when working with young people with a range of complex needs.
  • Be able to build positive relationships with the class group, ensuring consistency and continuity on a daily basis.
  • Have the ability to foster good relationships with other staff, pupils, parents and the wider community.
  • Be hard working, organised and proactive in professional development.
  • Be a team player who can work effectively with all members of the New Bridge team.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience supporting children or young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary sector.

Other Information

Location: New Bridge School, Hollinwood. All staff are employed by the MAT and may work at any site within the New Bridge Group. The post will be subject to pre‑employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK. Salary: Teacher / Unqualified Teacher Pay Range plus SEN and Base allowance. Commencing as soon as possible (subject to notice period).
