Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of children in our NHS workplace nurseries and support our NHS working families? You will be immersed in a supportive environment, focused entirely on nurturing young minds and helping them thrive.

Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust operates three workplace nurseries, providing high‑quality, compassionate care for children aged 0 to 5 years. Our nurseries are vital hubs, primarily supporting the dedicated NHS staff to enable them to go to work while we look after their children.

Responsibilities
  • Support the Nursery Management team.
  • Assist in the daily operation of the playroom for the assigned age group.
  • Support other Nursery nurses in their daily duties.
  • Work in partnership with parents and outside organisations.
  • Provide high‑quality physical, emotional, social, and intellectual care for all children at the nursery and contribute to service development.
  • Collaborate within a team, offering leadership, support and delegation to all staff in the designated age group.
  • Represent the nursery and SCFT at all times.
  • Maintain nursery standards in conjunction with SCFT and Nursery policies and procedures.
  • Ensure Health and Safety is consistently upheld in the designated playroom, nursery and hospital premises.
  • Work with the Nursery Management team and Estates Department to promptly address building and maintenance needs for safety.
  • Undertake certain domestic jobs within the Nursery.
  • Provide an engaging curriculum of activities appropriate for the children in the Nursery, aligned with Ofsted requirements and tailored to each child’s individual learning needs.
  • Support and attend parents’ evenings and Parent Nursery Group meetings, when required.
  • Liaise with and support parents, carers and family members during their child’s nursery attendance.
  • Record and report any accidents or incidents involving children or staff in the playroom at any time.
  • Ensure a risk assessment for activities undertaken within the allocated playroom and nursery premises.
  • Cover all children observations and next steps in the absence of any team members in the allocated playroom.
  • Report to the Nursery management team any child reportable sickness.
  • Undertake training as required and be involved in special projects as appropriate.
  • Support the development of the nursery teams within the allocated playroom.
  • Promote good staff relations, support, maintain an efficient working team and effective communication within the nursery and the allocated playroom.
  • Attend team meetings inside and outside working hours and help write the agenda.
  • Support Trainee Nursery Nurses, students and other unqualified workers while in the nursery.
  • Identify and meet own and others training needs within the allocated playroom.
  • Support the Management Team in completing nursery inductions with all new staff, visitors and students.
