Job description

We are currently seeking a Fibre Engineer with experience in internal and external cable and duct installations, fibre jointing & testing to join our Rail Team.

You will work with our existing engineering team to deliver an expanding and exciting portfolio of rail telecommunications projects as part of an established Rail Business throughout the UK.

Key Qualifications
  • Experience of working on internal and external cable.
  • Personal Track Safety (PTS) Qualification (mandatory).
  • Controller of Site Safety/SWL (COSS) Qualification would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence (mandatory).
  • Experience in copper jointing and testing would be beneficial but is not essential.
Basic Technical Requirements
Candidate must be able to explain/demonstrate through his/her skills and experience in the following:
  • Able to read, understand and splice to a Fibre Splice Diagram (FSD).
  • Able to read, understand and install to a Straight-Line Diagram (SLD).
  • Able to prepare and install Sheath Gaps on various sizes/type of fibre cable.
  • Able to build and splice various sizes/types of fibre joint enclosures (Straight/Spur).
  • Able to prepare and terminate various sizes/types of fibre cable within an ODF.
Optical Fibre Testing
Candidate must be able to explain/demonstrate through his/her skills and experience in the following:
  • Able to set OTDR’s to the settings stated within the Test Plan.
  • Able to correctly clean and maintain both OTDR and test leads.
  • Able to solve/correct faults on a network.
  • Able to test fibre cable bare end if required.
  • Able to record, save and submit OTDR traces.
  • Able to conduct full site analysis and prepare test traces for submission to the TIC.
  • Able to maintain and update test log.
