Job Summary

This post is fixed term/secondment for 2 years due to funding. If you are interested applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

The National Imaging Academy Wales (NIAW) sets up and acts as a site for numerous research projects. The Project Support Manager will aid with the initiation, management, and reporting of a variety of projects across Imaging in Wales.

A large proportion of projects involve NHS Research Approvals and applicants should have proven experience in NHS Research Governance with a sound knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), the UK Policy for Health and Social Care Research, HRA and HCRW Approval and the Research Ethics Service.

Welsh Skills

Welsh language skills (Level 3 and above/B2) are desirable. This does not mean essential; it is an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a key link between the Imaging and Research and Development departments across Wales, Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) and NIAW, building relationships to support and increase capacity for commercial research.
  • Report data and support the delivery of operational projects (e.g., artificial intelligence, service evaluation and quality improvement).
  • Support different aspects of research delivery and approvals, including project planning, tracking and reporting.
  • Autonomously manage elements of specific projects as delegated.
  • Ensure that standard project management methodologies are applied successfully to deliver projects.
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring, and controlling projects.
  • Experience of administering projects and programmes.
  • Experience of successful team working.
  • Experience of working within the NHS or other public sector body (desirable).
Skills and Attributes
  • Developed interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Able to plan and prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines and deal effectively with conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work autonomously and equally effective as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Proficient in use of standard IT packages e.g. MS Office and the ability to master new applications.
  • Advanced IT skills in a range of desktop applications (e.g., Excel, Power BI) (desirable).
Eligibility
  • Project management qualification such as PRINCE2 or equivalent experience (desirable).
