Project Engineer – Fabrication

Location: North East England (Tyne)

Contract: 12 Months
We're recruiting on behalf of a leading engineering and fabrication specialist for a Project Engineer to support a major new project of national importance. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced engineer to make a meaningful impact, working within a highly skilled team on a technically demanding programme.

Our client is about to kick off a 12-month fabrication project, based in one of the largest facilities of its kind on the East Coast. If you’re someone who thrives on challenging work, values precision, and enjoys being part of a collaborative team – this could be the role for you.

The Role
As a Project Engineer, you’ll play a key part in delivering complex fabrication work. From coordinating materials and writing technical specs, to supporting planning and tracking progress — your efforts will be essential to the success of each stage.

You’ll work closely with the Project Manager and fabrication team, ensuring that all activities run on time, within scope, and to the high standards expected by stakeholders. The facility includes state-of-the-art fabrication halls and in-house capabilities, giving you a strong platform to deliver efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation
  2. Review and refine engineering drawings and specifications
  3. Coordinate tools, materials, and equipment for fabrication work
  4. Monitor progress and assist in financial reporting and performance tracking
  5. Identify potential risks or bottlenecks and propose corrective actions
  6. Document project progress, finalise paperwork, and support project close-out activities
Ideal Candidate
  1. Background in engineering, structural engineering, or shipbuilding
  2. HNC or degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  3. Proficient with MS Office and project planning tools (MS Project)
  4. Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
  5. Commercial awareness and understanding of project management principles
Why Join This Project?
This is more than just a contract — it’s a chance to contribute to a meaningful and high-impact engineering project, while working alongside experts in marine and structural fabrication.

Our client offers:
  1. A strong focus on personal development and technical growth
  2. Financial benefits including employer pension contributions and life cover
  3. Access to a health cash plan, wellness support, and virtual GP services
  4. A supportive work-life balance with 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  5. Inclusive parental and family leave policies
