Project Document Controller: Barnsley - £35,000 to £40,000
W Talent is delighted to be working with a well-established manufacturing and projects-led organisation, who are seeking an experienced Project Document Controller to join their Compliance and Risk function based in Barnsley. This is a key role supporting effective project delivery by ensuring all project and manufacturing documentation is accurately controlled, compliant, and accessible. The position plays a critical part in maintaining quality standards, regulatory compliance, and efficient communication across multiple projects and stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Reporting to the HSEQ Manager, the Project Document Controller will be responsible for the management and maintenance of all project-related documentation across the business.
- You will develop and uphold robust document control systems, manage document workflows, and ensure documentation is compliant with internal procedures, client requirements, and regulatory standards.
- This role requires a highly organised and detail-oriented individual who can manage large volumes of documentation, support project teams, and maintain data integrity in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive document control system for project and manufacturing documentation.
- Manage document workflows including creation, revision, approval, distribution, and archiving.
- Ensure consistent formatting, version control, metadata accuracy, and document structure integrity.
- Establish and enforce document control procedures aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, quality, HSEQ, and operations teams to ensure timely and accurate documentation.
- Track and log all incoming and outgoing project documentation and communications.
- Prepare, issue, and manage document transmittals and submittals.
- Maintain project records including drawings, specifications, contracts, change orders, reports, and quality documentation.
- Administer document control systems such as SharePoint or internal platforms, ensuring appropriate access permissions.
- Support system upgrades, troubleshooting, and user training.
- Maintain master document registers and ensure correct document revisions are in use.
- Coordinate document submissions to clients and manage returned documentation, including re-issues.
- Produce KPI reports, maintain confidentiality, and ensure data protection compliance.
- Provide training to project teams on document control processes and tools.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a Project Document Controller or similar document control role.
- Strong administrative background with excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Sound knowledge of document lifecycle management and version control processes.
- Experience supporting project teams within a manufacturing, engineering, or construction environment.
- Confident communicating with clients, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and document control systems.
- Able to read and understand technical drawings.
- Proactive, methodical, and comfortable managing competing priorities and urgent requests.
Salary & Benefits
A competitive salary between £35,000 to £40,000 reflective of experience and responsibility.
