Job summary

A leading financial services company in Burton upon Trent seeks an experienced Project Accountant to manage project finances and ensure compliance with UK GAAP. The role involves month-end closing, financial forecasting, and working closely with stakeholders for effective financial insight. Candidates must be fully qualified accountants with 5 years of post-qualification experience and advanced Excel skills. Familiarity with SAP and project accounting in manufacturing or engineering sectors is preferred.

Project Accountant

Burton-on-Trent

£55,000 – £60,000 depending on experience

Working closely with the Head of FP&A, Project Managers, and senior stakeholders, this role is responsible for project-related financial activities, including accurate month-end closing, compliance with UK GAAP, and supporting strategic decision-making.

The Project Accountant is accountable for managing project finances, ensuring robust reporting and analysis, challenging performance, improving forecasting, and partnering with teams to deliver financial insight.

Key responsibilities:

  • Month-End Closing for projects
  • Run initial revenue recognition process in SAP and review anomalies
  • POC accounting treatments under UK GAAP
  • Post intercompany accruals and adjustments
  • Project Financial Management: monitoring project profitability and investigate unusual trends
  • Forecasting & analysis, projecting cashflow and providing variance
  • Close AP, AR, materials ledger, and timesheets in SAP
  • Business Partnering: working closely with varied stake holders, monitoring performance, cost-to-complete, and forecasting accuracy

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience
  • 3+ years of experience in project accounting, preferably within manufacturing or engineering sectors
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP
  • SAP project reporting desirable; strong Excel skills essential
  • Ability to interpret complex data and provide actionable insights
  • Strong business partnering and communication skills
