Job description
The Opportunity

Impel Talent has been retained by a leading global IPP with a multi-GW pipeline to appoint a Programme Manager to own the end-to-end delivery of its UK solar portfolio. Reporting directly into the Head of PMO and with a dotted line to the UK Managing Director, you will sit at the heart of the central PMO, driving multiple 100 MW+ solar projects through development, construction, and energisation.

This is a high‑visibility role where you will shape programme governance, accelerate delivery velocity, and ensure real‑time transparency for C‑suite and investors. You’ll be the glue between engineering, commercial, finance, and external EPC/ODM partners—delivering measurable value in one of Europe’s most dynamic renewable markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the UK Solar Programme Roadmap: Define objectives, milestones, budgets, and critical paths across concurrent large‑scale projects.
  • Drive Execution Excellence: Oversee planning, risk management, and compliance with UK grid codes, CfD, TNUoS, and planning consents.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Delivery: Coordinate PMO, EPC contractors, landowners, DNOs, and offtakers to hit COD on time and under budget.
  • Risk & Change Leadership: Proactively identify risks (grid delays, supply chain, policy shifts), deploy mitigations, and manage scope/schedule changes via formal change control.
  • Performance & Reporting: Deliver real‑time dashboards, weekly progress reports, and benefits tracking (IRR, NPV, carbon savings) to PMO, CEO, and board.
  • Process Innovation: Embed best‑practice tools (SmartSheet, Primavera P6) and continuous improvement frameworks to reduce cycle times and cost overruns.
  • Stakeholder Mastery: Build trusted relationships with internal teams, regulators (Ofgem, BEIS), and supply chain partners across the UK and Europe.
Your Profile
  • Education: Degree in Engineering (Electrical/Civil), Project Management, or Business.
  • Experience: 5–8+ years in programme/project management within UK utility‑scale solar (100 MW+ projects).
  • Technical Depth: Familiar with grid connection processes, G99, DCUSA, and CfD mechanics; able to interpret legal docs (PPAs, EPC contracts).
  • Tooling: Advanced user of SmartSheet (preferred), MS Project, or Primavera; strong financial modelling (budget vs. actuals, cash flow forecasting).
  • Leadership: Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, resolve conflicts, and inspire high‑performing teams in matrix environments.
  • Mindset: Process‑driven, data‑obsessed, and calm under pressure—thrives in ambiguity and tight deadlines.
  • Mobility: Willing to travel regularly across UK project sites and occasionally internationally.
  • Language: Fluent English (written/spoken); additional European languages a plus.
Why This Role?
  • Direct impact on GW‑scale decarbonisation in the UK.
  • Exposure to C‑suite and global investors in a high‑growth IPP.
  • Shape the PMO function as the UK portfolio scales rapidly.
  • Competitive package + bonus tied to project delivery.
