Overview

Our client, a world class Manufacturing business based in Plymouth, is looking for an experienced and qualified Product Development Engineer to join a well-established team. The role will be to support and lead product developments with the application of engineering theory and provide mechanical and hydraulic engineering expertise to the Product Development Department and other functions within and outside the company in an efficient manner with due regard to safety and to the highest quality.

Responsibilities
  • Apply engineering theory in support of new product development
  • Lead and oversee new product development projects
  • Lead and oversee new product introduction (NPI) projects
  • Lead and oversee test rig development projects for R&D testing facilities
  • Take a leading role in the control of engineering master data such as drawings, models and MRP system material records and bills of materials, including the issuing and timely processing of engineering changes
  • Assist Sales team with technical expertise to support new business development activities, sometimes involving UK and foreign travel
  • Use the latest 3D and FEA tools in the mechanical design of components and assemblies for new product developments
  • Write high-quality reports of all R&D testing
  • Learn and adapt new developments, technologies, techniques and processes for use in new and existing products
  • Proactively engage in VA/VE activities necessary to ensure the company maintains its cost competitiveness
  • Prepare customer installation drawings
  • Assist with the preparation of localised detailed drawings for all products
  • Produce 3D models of all Staffa products and, when agreed with KPMJ, of KPMJ-designed products, as requested by distribution and direct customers
  • Assist all other Departments with engineering needs
  • Provide detailed tolerance analysis to aid manufacture of current designs
Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Able to write technical reports to the highest standard
  • Full grasp of, and ability to apply, the principles of mechanical engineering
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering drawings and associated disciplines
  • Use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills
