Principle Capital Projects Manager

The post holder will be a key member of the Project Team and will have an important role in ensuring delivery of a high quality capital project. Be professionally accountable for estates project construction and implementation of delegated Schemes within the Trust's Investment Programme to improve the environment for patients and staff.

The post-holder will be required to lead a team of project managers to successfully develop and manage the Capital Programme for Estates and Facilities. This includes being a key advisor to the Head of Capital Programme and senior staff in the Trust on projects of strategic and operational significance.

The post-holder will be required to provide expert, infrastructure, construction and technical advice to deliver the capital programme to include a number of high value schemes.

Main duties of the job

To work as a specialist professional as part of the Estates Department.

Deputising for the Head of Capital Programme as required.

Be involved in the day-to-day activities of the E&F Capital Programme as a whole and must be proactive and visible in driving the programme forwards.

To provide expert specialist and professional construction and estates projects advice to other Estates staff, Directors, Senior Management, Trust Boards and external agencies.

Be able to communicate the 5-Year Capital Programme and vision effectively. This will involve highly complex situations where there will be significant barriers to understanding.

Owning and communicating the vision for the 5-Year Capital Programme and being its 'champion', providing clear leadership and direction through the life of the programme.

Providing overall direction and leadership for the delivery and implementation of the Capital Programme with personal accountability for its outcome, including taking a lead role where required in property/land disposals, acquisitions and negotiations with both third parties and external investors.

Job responsibilities

Ensure that the project framework is effectively planned and managed in accordance with the agreed project management processes and the requirements of the key milestone schedule, to provide the management information required to manage the overall programme.

Analysing the Programme to identify critical interdependencies (logical, benefit and resources) and their impacts, reviewing options and recommending corrective action as appropriate.

Managing the population and on-going maintenance of the Master Programme, key milestone schedule and other programmes as required, ensuring that they set out the current status and progress on individual projects.

Ensuring effective programme controls including planning, reporting, risk and issue management, quality and budget control (based on PRINCE2 and Managing Successful Programmes methodology and best practice), are consistently and effectively applied and in accordance with Trust guidelines.

Defining, taking responsibility for and communicating the programmes governance framework and ensuring adherence to the framework.
