Job summary

A leading technology firm is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer for a fully onsite position in Newcastle upon Tyne or Edinburgh. In this role, you will develop an in-service radar system, analyze large datasets, and apply advanced signal processing techniques. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to innovate defense solutions and contribute to system verification and validation. Ideal candidates should have strong MATLAB expertise and experience with safety-critical systems. This is a 12-month contract paying up to £70 per hour.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience with MATLAB for analyzing large datasets.
  • Experience in the full V-model lifecycle focusing on implementation, integration, testing, and V&V.
  • Familiarity with radar or complex sensor systems is beneficial.

Principal Systems Engineer

Role overview

Our client is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to contribute to the continued development of an in-service radar system, by supporting the planning and analysis of radar trials (rig-based and flight trials).

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with large datasets from rig and flight trials, and use analytical techniques to evaluate radar performance against requirements and raise Systems Problem Reports (SPR) for detailed investigation.
  • Apply signal processing, image processing, and object classification techniques to extract actionable insights.
  • Investigate system anomalies using real trial data, ensuring performance meets specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to develop and prototype cutting-edge defence solutions.
  • Contribute to System Verification & Validation (V&V) activities as part of the continuous development/enhancement of the Radar System.
Required Skillset
  • Strong experience with MATLAB, particularly for use in the analysis of large data sets.
  • Full V-model lifecycle experience, with an emphasis on the middle to right side (implementation, integration, testing, and V&V).
  • Experience in safety-critical systems.
  • An understanding of radar or complex sensor systems would be beneficial.
