An established local authority in South Wales is seeking a Principal Planning Officer for a part-time role. This position involves managing a caseload of planning applications and providing expert advice to various stakeholders. The successful candidate will represent the Council in public inquiries and hearings, showcasing their expertise in town planning. This role offers a flexible working arrangement, primarily from home, with occasional site visits. Our client is a local authority based in South Wales and they require a Principal Planning Officer within their Development Management team for a part time role offering 22hrs per week.
You will deal with a caseload of applications and pre-application enquiries/screening and scoping opinions for major/EIA development including residential, commercial, industrial and energy related development.
As a more senior member of the team you will be expected to represent the Council by preparing and presenting expert and professional evidence at public inquiries, informal hearings and in court and you will regularly be required to provide professional advice to Council members, senior officers, applicants and the public on planning applications, development proposals and related matters.
To carry out this role you will need to be a degree qualified town planner with recent experience of having worked within a local authority development management team. You will also have significant strategic major development experience, working on high profile applications both pre-app and live cases.
This will initially be offered as a 3 month contract, but it could be extended beyond this, and our client is looking to pay up to £38.55p/hr Umbrella (this role is inside IR35).
The team primarily work from home, however there would be a need to attend site visits which could be grouped and undertaken 1 day per fortnight.
